Eating properly is more important when trying to lose weight that you might think.

You have to keep your blood sugar levels as stable as you can.
This will keep you from having blood sugar swings that will hinder your weight loss and also make you have sugar cravings.
You want to be eating low glycemic index carbohydrate foods.
These foods with not cause a large blood sugar spike.
They will help in keeping your blood sugar at a constant level.
This in turn will keep your energy levels even, and will help you feel fuller between meals because of the type of food that you ate eating, due to being generally of the higher fiber type.
The glycemic index is set up with a number given to a certain food.
The higher the number, the greater the blood sugar swing your body will have by eating it.
Fifty-five and under is considered as being low on the index.
Medium would be any food falling between fifty-six and sixty nine on the index.
High value foods are anything that is seventy and above.
When eating foods that are in the higher end of the glycemic index, eat them with protein, good fat and high fiber type foods to help slow down the body's absorption of them.
However, this does not mean that you can get away with eating a candy bar with a steak.
You still have to use some food common sense.
Typical low glycemic index foods are vegetables starting out around ten going up to the forties.
Some medium glycemic index foods are your grains and some baked goods like croissant and hamburger buns.
High glycemic index foods are anything with a lot of sugar and foods that turn to sugar in your body after eating like cornflakes, white flour based foods, rice cakes, watermelon and dates, just to name a few.
