Xbox 360 3 Red Lights Glowing - XClamp Fix
There are many gaming consoles available in the market and one such console is the Xbox 360 designed by Microsoft Corporation.
Xbox is the first videogame console introduced by Microsoft and with continuous technological developments it introduced many features to its hardware and released its next version of Xbox named as Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 has advance features when compared with that of its previous version.
Xbox 360 was introduced in the year 2005 and since its introduction many users had problems with the console's hardware.
Many had complained about the red light errors and the overheating problem.
RED LIGHT ERROR The red light errors are those that occur whenever a console is facing some problems.
The name red light error came because of the blinking of the red light in the power ring area whenever there is an error.
Whenever an error occurs, the lights around the power button changes from green color to red color.
The lights are made up of LEDs that are capable of glowing in red and green color.
CAUSE FOR THE RED LIGHT The red light error is due to the overheating of the console as the heat sinks were not able to cool the hot air developed near the processor causing the processor to fail.
There are many reasons for the occurrence of the overheating.
It can be either due to larger power consumption by the intercooler causing the motherboard to carry larger current through its circuit or it can be due to bad chip components soldered to the motherboard.
SOLUTION The overheating causes the GUI to fail resulting in the "Three Red Light Error".
As the name suggests there will be three red lights glowing when the error occurs.
Also the screen will pop an error message E 74 at the time of error.
The error message might be different.
This problem is famously called as the "Red Rings of Death" or RRoD.
One of the possible ways to avoid the red light error is to provide enough cooling to the motherboard so that it does not get overheated and the temperature will be maintained constant for long period of time.
This can be done by removing the X clamps from the motherboard.
There are many ways to get rid of the RRoD but the most economical way is by repairing the console on your own.
You can also give your console to the Microsoft service centre in order to repair your console.
But, the main drawback is that you need to wait for 4 to 12 weeks to get your console repaired in Microsoft service center.
Moreover they won't repair modded consoles.
Hence many people tried to repair the console by themselves and more than 90% of them were successful.
Actually repairing the console on your own is found to be economical as there is no need of spending much money.
To repair your console you need to watch some videos online which will guide you through each and every step in the repair process.
Repairing does not require any sophisticated tools as we are going to just remove the X clamp and place the heat sinks without it.
