    Ecomposter Parts

    • The Ecomposter is made of curved sphere panels held together with tabs, rivets and pins assembled with only a hammer, Phillips screwdriver and a rubber mallet required. Additional parts with the Ecomposter include inner and outer lids, as well as a collar and center ring, to complete the sphere assembly.

The interior of the Ecomposter includes small and large air tubes that aerate the center of the sphere for faster composting. There is an optional base assembly that keeps the Ecomposter off the ground, and wheels for easy rotation.

    Filling and Turning

    • Fill the Ecomposter with the recommended brown and green materials using a 50/50 ratio, alternately adding the brown and green materials to fill the unit. A bucket or container that you can easily fill and use to keep track of the amount of each type of material is the best way to proceed with filling. Break up larger pieces you're adding to make the Ecomposter easier to fill and for faster composting.

Turn the Ecomposter every day in any direction to aerate the materials inside evenly. You can turn the Ecomposter simply by rolling it around on the ground, or use the optional stand and roll it on the stand's wheels.

    Usable Green Materials

    • Green materials may or may not be colored green, but they comprise nitrogen-rich substances such as yard waste, including garden or plant trimmings and grass clippings. The Ecomposter is a convenient way to use up kitchen waste like raw fruit and vegetable leftovers, eggshells and coffee grounds.

    Usable Brown Materials

    • Brown materials add carbon to the compost and include some things that tend to pile up like old newspaper and shredded papers, making this a resourceful way to recycle paper. You may also add wood shavings and sawdust or ashes, as well as dead leaves.

    Ecomposter Maintenance

    • Maintaining the Ecomposter requires monitoring temperature and moisture levels, and proper aeration. The best way to test the temperature is to place your hand in the middle of the composting materials to see if the center is warm or hot, ideally 140 to 160 degrees F.

Spray the materials with a hose if the mixture is too dry so that the compost feels moist, but not soaking wet. Add blood meal or aged manure to dry out composting materials that are too wet. The Ecomposter should be rotated daily to aerate the composting materials to give the microorganisms the oxygen they need.
