How to Patch a Dogwood Tree
- 1). Cut around the exposed area of the dogwood tree with a knife, removing any mold that may have formed. The interior of a dogwood tree could be exposed through a cut in the bark, a broken branch or a split between trunk and branch.
- 2). Remove any splinters from broken branches that look like they are decaying using a hand saw. Strong winds can cause branches to break, inviting decay.
- 3). Pour rubbing alcohol on a rag and apply it to the damaged part of the tree. This will clean and kill any mold or bacteria that may be forming.
- 4). Apply a coat of tree paint to the wound area with your paint brush. This will protect the tree from becoming infected. You can purchase tree paint at a garden center.
