    • 1). Insert the installation CD into the computer if the manual calls for it, and install any programs, such as webcam drivers or software to display the webcam, as required by the installation process. Follow the instructions on the program and the manual to do this.

    • 2). Connect the camera to the USB cable, then connect the cable to a USB port in your computer. Wait for the computer to recognize and connect to the camera. You will get a notification in the system tray in the lower-right corner of your desktop when your webcam is ready.

    • 3). Test the camera. You can do this by using the software provided by the webcam's manufacturer, or use another program, such as Windows Live Messenger or Skype (See Resources), both of which support webcam usage. Consult your program's manual for the specific method to access your webcam.

    • 4). Position the camera while the camera is active. Ideally, you want to set it up so that it has a clear view of your face while you are sitting comfortably in your chair. You may consider placing the camera on top of your monitor or around it. The webcam should be able to clip onto your monitor, or you could include adhesive provided with the webcam for attachment to the monitor or other place you want to set up the webcam.
