How to Store Electronics
- 1). Remove batteries from electronics that are battery powered, such as cell phones or laptops. Place foam padding or, if you are just moving the items within a week's time, static-free bubble wrap over fragile areas, such as television screens. Secure the protective padding or bubble wrap to the item with tape.
- 2). Tape cords and other loose objects to the electronic item. Place two layers of packing peanuts on the bottom of a cardboard box large enough to hold the electronic piece.
- 3). Place the electronic item inside the box in an upright position. Pour packing peanuts into the box to fill open areas at the sides of the item.
- 4). Place silica gel desiccant packets in with the item. Use the number of packages indicated by the manufacture--this will vary according to the size of the electronic item.
- 5). Pour two layers of packing peanuts on top of the item. Close the lid to the box and seal it with tape, allowing no gaps for dust or insects to enter the box.
- 6). Place the electronic item in a climate-controlled storage room. The temperature must be above freezing--and preferably at room temperature, between 50 degrees and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 7). Label the boxes, using a marker. Give the name of the item and draw an arrow pointing up to indicate that the box should not be placed upside down or on its side.
