Previously the home of the prominent Al Zubair family, the museum is owned and run by them and mainly consists of their private collection of Omani artefacts that have been passed down the generations to become the most impressive privately owned collection today. The artefacts are spaced over three buildings using modern methods to assist visitors and create a welcoming atmosphere while preserving the architectural beauty and historical value of the house.

Detailed information regarding the Al Busaidi Dynasty including portraits of a number of Sultans, an extensive collection of Khanjars (Omani daggers), swords and traditional firearms, male and female attire, household utensils, traditional Muscat furniture and jewellery are some of the items on display.
