The Secret, Has Created a Monster
It might sound far fetched to say that the bestseller The Secret, has created a monster, but if you bear with me, I think you will understand where I am coming from.
What the author and participants of the movie, The Secret, have done is to take just one of several cosmic laws, wrap it up with layers of hype and then made a commodity of it.
I have no problem with its financial success, only, I wish the authors had used their influence to paint a more complete picture.
It is so easy to appeal to the materialistic tendencies in people.
We live in a material world and we all need stuff to make our lives more comfortable.
I would have liked the participants in the movie to be more honest.
Perhaps they are unaware of the blatant materialism in The Secret.
Who knows? Certainly, they have cashed in on a very human desire.
The desire to have things, the desire to have status, and the desire to command respect and recognition.
I sometimes wonder whether people realise what a dire state the world is in.
There are currently at least 10 major wars going on, and something like 32 civil wars.
There are millions starving; there are ecological and natural disasters and still the fans of The Secret are busy asking for the perfect relationship, the perfect job, the car of their dreams.
Talk about fiddling while Rome is burning! The fact is, we may achieve our perfect life, but if world conditions get worse, it will put all our acquisitions in danger.
None of us is an island.
What's the point in having all our personal dreams come true when the world, increasingly becomes perilous for all of us? We are all inter-dependent.
For example, if one country suffers a drought and is unable to harvest a fruit or a herb, the price of that commodity will shoot up.
All of us will be affected.
Problems can no longer be considered in just national terms.
Everyday our status as global citizens, becomes more and more obvious.
The Secret appeals to the ME in us.
Our personality.
Our Personal self.
The Secret forgets about the the WHOLE.
Our Universal self.
This hankering after the personal, is responsible for the society we have created.
Personal needs are uppermost in our minds and to hell with anyone else.
FOR OUR SURVIVAL, as human beings, humanity has to start thinking globally, universally.
Apart from the Law of attraction, there are other important cosmic laws, there is the law of recording, the law of reincarnation, the law of correspondences, the law of the rebound.
The law of attraction can be implemented on a UNIVERSAL level with great results.
The paradox is that when we ask the Universe for world peace or understanding between people, we are awarded with beautiful states of consciousness and those things which are necessary for our wellbeing.
At the same time we are contributing to the ultimate installation of peace on earth.
