How to Design a Room of Guitars

    • 1). Choose a room in your house or garage that's temperature-controlled and sealed from the outdoors to prevent possible damage and theft of your guitar collection. Clean out your future guitar room if you haven't done so already.

    • 2). Purchase and install track lighting if you're not satisfied with the room's current lighting. Doing so focuses light directly onto the walls where the instruments will be displayed and makes them look shiny and "new," a common display method in many guitar stores. If track lighting isn't possible or you have no experience in electrical wiring, choose light bulbs with softer lighting.

    • 3). Use carpet staples or carpet tacks to hang carpet or large area rugs onto the walls of the room, both for decoration and for utilitarian purposes: the carpet or rugs double as sound dampeners should you or guests want to crank an amp and jam in the room.

    • 4). Mark placements on the wall where you want to display your guitar collection. Another music store display method is to stagger the guitar display. This creates visual interest.

    • 5). Drill into the studs of the wall and insert the guitar wall hangers per the manufacturer's directions. Polish your guitars and hang them on the walls, but stash any empty cases or gig-bags out of sight in a separate storage room to save space and reduce clutter.

    • 6). Lay down music- or guitar-themed throw rugs on the floor for decor and to further dampen sound. Plug in any amps and place comfortable stools around the room so players can have a seat. Place a dehumidifier in the room and reduce air moisture that may damage the guitars.
