What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Osteoporosis of Pelvic Bone?

    Pain

    • Pain is a common symptom of osteoporosis, specifically in the pelvic bone. As the bone breaks down and becomes brittle, it can cause your back to weaken and cause pain in your spine. Combine that with a high likelihood of collapsed vertebra, and you're likely to suffer from terrible pain that requires immediate treatment for relief.

    Poor Posture

    • Another common symptom of osteoporosis in the pelvic region is poor posture. Although osteoporosis has a tendency to target certain areas of the body like the back, wrists and hips, if it's present in one part of the body, it's likely present elsewhere. If your posture begins to slump, especially in the upper back, it is likely you will have bone loss or deterioration in your pelvis as well.

    Loss of Height

    • Losing height over the years is another common sign of osteoporosis, even that which is present in the pelvis. As you experience bone loss, the support for your body deteriorates, leaving you stooped and shrunk. If you notice that you've lost height, it is imperative that you seek treatment right away to prevent further damage.

    Fractures

    • Fractured bones are another common sign of osteoporosis. While anyone can suffer from a broken bone, fractures are especially common in those with this disease. Once the bone begins to deteriorate, even the slightest stress can cause a fracture like picking up something heavy or, in severe cases, coughing.

    No Symptoms

    • Unfortunately, in many cases of osteoporosis, sufferers do not present with any symptoms until the later stages of the disease--when bone fracture is a real risk. In other cases, patients may experience fractures without realizing it for many years. Maintaining regular check-ups with your doctor and taking a calcium supplement is important to prevent the onset of osteoporosis in areas like the pelvic bone.
