How to Rebuild a 10 Bolt Posi
- 1). Jack the rear end of the vehicle up on the jack stands and unbolt the lug nuts and pull the wheels and tires off of each side of the axle.
- 2). Unbolt all of the mounting bolts (there are 10 of them) on the outside edges of the differential (round portion of the rear axle) and pull the round cover or bell housing off of the differential.
- 3). Locate the rear pinion gears for each of the control arms and slide the new rear gear into the slot on each. Use the Allen wrenches to tighten down the set screws on the new rear gears to hold them in place.
- 4). Unbolt the wheel housings on either end of the axle tubes and pull the spindle shafts out. Insert the new axle shafts and replace the wheel bushings (the round rubber bushing between the spindle shaft and the wheel housing).
- 5). Reinstall the wheels on either end of the axle tubes. Place the gasket between the bell housing cover and the differential housing, mate the two pieces together and install the mounting bolts.
- 6). Lower the car off of the jack stands and carefully test it to see how the newly rebuilt 10 bolt Posi performs.
