Credit Reporting Agencies
In the United States, there are four credit reporting bureaus; Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis.
You've likely never heard of Innovis, and that is because that bureau doesn't currently have any effect when credit worthiness is being calculated.
Your credit report, as issued by the three main bureaus, is the main factor that determines whether you are or are not approved for a loan of any kind, including a mortgage.
The managers of the credit bureaus and the people who enter information into each person's credit report are all humans, and because they are humans, they can make errors.
It is of the utmost importance that each person gets copies of and checks their reports for errors.
Sometimes errors can be corrected with a phone call or through snail mail.
The difference that one little piece of erroneous information in a credit report can make is enormous.
It can be the difference between credit being granted or denied.
It can make thousands of dollars worth of difference in interest that will be paid.
