While this release offers a good selection of covers, it is a bit vanilla for my taste.

The Review

The Awakening is a new worship CD for men produced by Integrity Music in conjunction with Promise Keepers. PK7 is a worship band created specifically for this project and Promise Keepers events. It is comprised of worship leaders and studio musicians from around the country, including Dave Lubben, Jason King, Jared Anderson, Anthony Evans and Curt Coffield.

This is a talent-packed roster, but the project as a whole seems to lack personality. What it does offer is a strong list of tunes; these are some of the more interesting worship songs out there at the present. Jared Anderson's "Rescue" has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it.

"How Great is Our God" is presented nicely, as is "Today." I was unfamiliar with Reuben Morgan's beautiful "Still," but I am now a confirmed fan. I don't know that this CD would wake me up, but it will hopefully serve the men of Promise Keepers well.
