Health Risks Associated With Late-Preterm Infants
Late-preterm infants are at increased risk for hyperbilirubinemia, respiratory compromise, poor feeding, temperature instability, and infection. Individualized riskfocused assessment of this population needs to be completed at each possible opportunity. Infant health care providers and parents need heightened awareness of the potential health risks in late-preterm infants so morbidities can be prevented or identified early and treated quickly to prevent further morbidity in the preterm infant.
