If you want to really get to the next level trick photography steel wool is the trick for you. You would require some steel wool, a battery, a length of chain, protective hat or a hood, fire extinguisher, tripod for the camera, remote shutter release or timed exposure.

All you need to do is pick up some steel wool, tie it to a chain, heat it up and start spinning it. You can then start taking long exposure shots of the spinning steel wool. To make this trick more pleasing, you can do it in a tunnel where the sparks touch all the corners of the tunnel and sometimes even bouncing off the walls. Using the same technique you can create a lot of effects. For example, over the head spinning of the steel wool can be an interesting effect to try.

Light Domes

To create domes, you simply have to attach a light to the end of a broomstick and hold the other end. You can now place the other end of the broomstick to the ground. Think of it as one end is attached to the ground like a pivot joint and move the other end in a random motion. This will create a movement of light in a shape of a dome. You can take long exposure shots of this motion to create light dome images.

Alternatively, you can also use a stick to perform the trick. The size and color of the dome depend on the size of the stick and the color you choose to use.

Light Stitching

This is one of the cool photography effects of stitching together a number of light paintings to create a unique shape. You would first have to take multiple light painting photos of different abstracts and then add them all as layers in Photoshop. Once this is done, you will have to change the Blending Mode on all the layers to Lighten, Screen, or Linear Dodge.

You will now have to merge all the images and place them accordingly to create a shape. To do that, select your layer and press CTRL+T which will take you to free transformation mode. You'll have different options such as warp, scale, move, rotate, distort, and to add perspective the layer/selection. You can use all these functions to create a shape of your choice.

The Harris Shutter Effect

This is a post processing effect created by the use of Photoshop. You will require a tripod to capture this effect. You will need to take three different photos of the object, person or an animal in different positions around the same frame. Then place all the three images as layers in Photoshop.

Now, you can either copy the entire RGB layer or a single, red, green, or blue channel by clicking on the channels tab, and then replace one of the red, green, or blue channels onto the bottom layer. You will need to do this twice to create a three color variance of the object. After you have pasted the layers into a channel, you can save the image created.
