Chantix Linked To Seizures
Patient Reports Link Chantix to Suicides:
Chantix use has been associated with numerous serious side effects, including seizures, erratic heartbeat, vision disturbances, depression and suicide. Chantix was approved by the FDA in 2006, and by the end of 2006, Chantix was listed among a group of 35 drugs that received more than 100 serious injury reports. By 2007, Chantix ranked third among all drugs in reported problems. The Institute for Safe Medical Practices studied 988 of these patient reports received by the FDA, and concluded that 86 Chantix users suffered seizures. While no scientific evidence is currently available, researchers continue to study Chantix to determine if seizures are indeed a Chantix side effect. Chantix lawsuits claim that Pfizer did not perform proper clinical tests before it marketed Chantix. In November 2007, the FDA notified Pfizer about links between Chantix use and depression. Forty suicides and 400 attempted suicides have been linked to Chantix use. Even so, Pfizer waited until May 2008 to change Chantix's label.
Federal Aviation Administration Bans Pilots From Using Chantix:
In May 2008, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) banned pilots and air traffic controllers from using Chantix based on reports from the Institute for Safe Medical Practices. With the potential for pilots and air traffic controllers to become unconscious while performing their duties, the FAA ordered pilots and air traffic controllers to wait 72 hours after discontinuing their use of Chantix before returning to work. The Institute also links a number of automobile accidents to Chantix side effects. This in turn caused the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to prohibit issuing new truck licenses to drivers using Chantix. Lawsuits allege that Pfizer was negligent because it manufactured and marketed an unsafe drug.
If you have experienced seizures, erratic heart beat, depression, or any other related illnesses while on Chantix you may be entitled to financial compensation due to lost wages, pain and suffering, and medical expenses. Chantix lawsuits are currently being filed across the country.
