How to Change Transmission Fluid in a Venture
- 1). Park the Venture on a flat surface and wait about 30 minutes for the engine to cool off. Raise the front of the car with a jack and secure it on two jack stands to access the underside of the car. Slide underneath the vehicle and locate the transmission drain pan near the center of the car on the driver's side. This is a large metal box surrounded by eight bolts. Place a 5-quart collection pan underneath the drain pan.
- 2). Remove seven of the eight bolts surrounding the drain pan with a 1/2-inch socket wrench. Wait 10 to 15 minutes for the fluid to drain into the collection pan. Place one hand on the drain pan while removing the final bolt. Tip the drain pan down to empty the remaining transmission fluid into the collection pan. Wash out the drain pan to remove old fluid buildup.
- 3). Remove the old filter located beneath the drain pan by taking out the three bolts with a 3/8-inch socket wrench. Replace it with the new filter. Reattach the drain pan and lower the car from the jack stands with the jack.
- 4). Open the hood of the car and locate the red transmission dipstick behind the battery and above the drain pan. Pull out the dipstick and place a funnel in the tube. Pour in 3 quarts of transmission fluid then reinsert the dipstick. Close the hood.
