Blitzen Trapper Albums
Blitzen Trapper is a band based in Portland, OR, that was founded in 2000.
But if you're here, you already know that.
Let's talk about the albums they've released.
1) Blitzen Trapper (2003 Lidkercow Ltd) - This is where it all started for Blitzen Trapper.
After forming in 2000, the band released their first album as a self-titled, 11 track album.
2) Field Rexx (2004 Lidkercow Ltd) - The band continued to evolve as they released their second album in quick succession a year later in 2004.
Field Rexx introduced their mishmashed style of country and folk, and was enigmatically characterized as "Alternative Country".
The 15 track album was made almost entirely during the summer of 2004.
3) Wild Mountain Nation (2007 Lidkercow Ltd/Sub Pop) - Wild Mountain Nation was a breakthrough effort by Blitzen Trapper and it brought the band onto the big stage both nationally and internationally.
Wild Mountain Nation further blurs the lines between folk, country, pop and rock as the band seems to thumb their nose at traditional genre delineations.
The album received an 8.
5 out of 10 rating from Pitchfork Magazine and was also recognized as "Best New Music" by the same magazine.
4) Furr (2008 Sub Pop) - The band continued to grow in popularity as they released Furr in 2008.
This album is widely considered one of their best albums.
The album received recognition from numerous media outlets including Rolling Stone, which ranked the album as the 13th best of the top 50 of 2008.
Dealing with deep philosophical issues such as morality, life, and death, the album feels like a well written old western novel.
5) Destroyer of the Void (2010 Sub Pop) - In 2010 the band released another great album.
Destroyer of the Void saw the band continue their now-characteristic genre bending work.
The band continued to evolve, but in unpredictable and nonlinear ways.
This album sounds like something Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Led Zeppelin would come up with if you put them all in the same room together and told them to write music.
6) American Goldwing (2011 Sub Pop) - This brings us to the present.
Blitzen Trapper released their most recent album in 2011.
The album has been successful, although not as successful as the high point the band experienced with Furr.
The album has also seen the band further settle into a groove-a style that they created themselves and can now be defined in terms of their previous albums.
