Free Containers for Seed Starting in Your Apartment Container Garden
Growing a plant from a seed can be very exciting, especially when the plant first breaks through the soil to spread its leaves.
It's nearly as exciting as having a child, but costs less and requires less of a commitment! To grow and apartment container garden you need containers to start growing seeds in.
Here are some free or very low cost containers.
Egg Cartons are handy because they're already divided into small little pots.
You can grow a dozen different plants or start a dozen of the same one all in one easy to handle container.
The downside is that they don't give much room to the new plants, so you'll have to transplant them very early on.
Also be careful watering - they can leak and even fall apart if too wet (unless you can still find styrofoam egg cartons).
Milk Jugs and Cartons work great but it can take some time to collect enough of them.
Simply rinse them out and cut off the tops.
You can also use single-serving milk cartons that you or your children might drink every day.
Plastic and Paper Cups are very cheap to buy, but what about all the ones that get thrown out at work? You could ask your coworkers to rinse out their cups and set them aside for you, or just take a quick look through the trash yourself.
Tell people your helping make the office more green! I'm sure you can find other containers around your home that would work well for starting seeds.
Take a look around and use your imagination!
