This is just fantastic!!!

Diving is absolutely the most popular activity on the Bay Islands in Honduras, and it's still one the cheapest places in the world to get a diving certification! Try for example Ocean Connections or Pura Vida - World class;-) Note that diving is more difficult and not as rewarding during the island' rainy season, from November to February. Some of the dive shop usually offer introductory courses and full PADI-certification courses qualifying you to dive worldwide. Though most dive shops are affiliated with PADI, SSI and NAWI courses are also available. Open-water diving certification courses typically lasts thrree to four days and includes two confined-water and four open-water dives. Advanced diving courses are also available in different shops. Despite the low cost. safety and equipment standards are usually reasonable, and accidents are rare, despite the high volume of divers.
Utila used to have the lowest certification prices of the thee Bay Islands, but prices on Roatn are about the same now (2010). Guanaja is still much more expensive, and are not a budget destination.
When you choose a dive course, don't make the mistake of selecting purely on the basis of price, you'll find the differrences are small, anyway. Instead, find the shop that has a good record and where you feel comfortable.
Experienced and qualified divers also have plenty op options, including fun dives, 10 dive packages, night dives, deep dives, wreck diving, customized dive charters and dives to coral walls and caves - you see, lots of possibilities. There is a great vaiety of fish and marine life present, and the visibility is great - vey great. The waters between Roatn and Utila are among the best places in the world to view whale sharks, usually form May to September.
If you travel with children, you will love the beaches and the possibility to go snorkeling with them. Try for example West Bay - the most beautiful beach on Roatn, where you'll find fantastic snorkeling at the western end, and buoyes to ward off the boats. You can easily rent snorkeling equipment if you don't have your own.
