How to Test an Ice Maker
- 1). Switch off the ice maker via the refrigerator controls, using the switch on the side of the mechanism or by lifting the metal sensor arm until it clicks in place.
- 2). Remove the ice bucket from the mechanism and tip the cubes into your kitchen sink. Thoroughly wash the bucket out with lukewarm water, melting any stuck chunks of ice. Thoroughly dry the container when you finish.
- 3). Replace the ice bucket and switch the ice maker back on. Ensure your freezer compartment is at roughly minus 4 Fahrenheit and close the door.
- 4). Wait at least 24 hours for your ice maker to create the first batch of ice. When ice appears in the bucket, test the dispenser mechanism, if fitted, by pushing a cup into the space on the front of the refrigerator.
- 5). Examine the cubes. They should all be a uniform size and shape and frozen solid. Check the water supply line or refrigerator water filter if cubes appear discolored or are hollow or have an unusual taste.
