How to File a Crosscut Saw
- 1). Place the blade section of the crosscut saw in a saw vise. Turn the handle of the saw to the right.
- 2). Choose the first saw tooth facing you, starting at the end of the saw. Put the file into the gullet, the V-shaped area between each tooth, to the left of the saw tooth.
- 3). Turn the file to the left, making sure it crosses the crosscut-saw blade at a 45-degree angle.
- 4). Place one hand on the handle of the file, with the other hand holding the end of the file to keep it firm.
- 5). Apply pressure while pushing the file against the saw tooth. Lift the file slightly when pulling it back. Continue in this manner until all the teeth on that side have been filed.
- 6). Remove the saw from the vise. Turn the saw at a 45-degree angle with the handle to the right. Put the file between the V section between the first tooth. Use the same method to finish filing all the teeth.
