Garages are a great place to store just about all of life's things.
From seasonal indoor and outdoor decorations to all of your gardening tools and supplies.
From automotive cleaning and repair supplies to left over paint from your latest remodeling project.
From baseball gloves to bike helmets.
You can usually find it in the garage.
The down side to storing so much in your garage is, if you do not keep everything well organized, you can not find what you need when you need it.
Fortunately a quick trip to your local hardware store or home improvement center will reveal many garage storage options such as; plastic containers, adjustable wire shelving, lumber and hardware to build customized shelving.

    No need for shelving.

  • Solid colors do not allow you to see the contents without opening the lid

    If you need something from the bottom container you need to move all the others on top.
  • The large containers can be extremely heavy if overloaded.
The Pros of wire shelving;
  • Can be free standing or attached to the wall.
  • Extremely strong.
  • Wide array of accessories available.
  • Adjustable to fit almost any space.
The Cons of wire shelving;
  • The most expensive option.
  • May require special tools for cutting and assembling.
The Pros of custom build wood shelving;
  • Designed to fit your space exactly.
  • Easily sized to accommodate all those plastic storage containers you are tired of restacking.
  • Extremely strong.
  • Easy to build with basic woodworking tools.
  • Easy to install doors to protect from dust and dirt.
The Cons of custom built wood shelving;
  • May be more costly than the wire shelving if you need to hire a professional.
  • Not adjustable.
  • Can take a considerable amount of time to complete.
If money is no object, go with the wire shelving.
You can get exactly what you want, they look good and you can always make adjustments in the future.
If you have good woodworking skills, get yourself some customizable wood shelving plans and let the saw dust fly.
However if you just need to get organized, buy a variety of plastic storage containers and work up from there.
