How to Hang Prepasted Wallpaper for Beginners
- 1). Use a measuring tape to measure the width and height of the walls you would like to wallpaper. Multiply the total width by the total height to get the square footage amount. Make a visit to your local wallpaper or paint store to purchase prepasted wallpaper that meets your measurement requirements. You can add a few extra feet to your measurements to allow room for potential mistakes. If you are placing your wallpaper in a room that has high humidity, such as a bathroom or kitchen, you should choose a vinyl wallpaper, which will help prevent mold and mildew from forming.
- 2). Fill your waterbox with lukewarm water.
- 3). Cut a small panel of wallpaper. The panel should be long enough to cover the entire height of a small section.
- 4). Roll the panel of wallpaper up working your way from the bottom of the paper to the top of the paper to form a "scroll." When forming the wallpaper scroll, the pattern should be facing inward. The prepasted side should be facing outward.
- 5). Place the rolled panel inside of the waterbox. Allow the panel to soak for about 10 minutes to activate the paste. The exact amount of time that the panel needs to soak will vary by wallpaper manufacturer so be sure to read the instructions for the exact timing of your specific brand. When the scroll is inside of the waterbox, it needs to be weighted down so that the entire panel is submersed underneath the water. You can use any object you choose to weight the paper down.
- 6). Remove the panel from the waterbox and unroll it.
- 7). Align the top edge of the wallpaper with the top edge of your wall or the top of the area you desire to wallpaper. Rub the wallpaper with the smoothing brush as you apply it to the wall. The smoothing brush will smooth out the paper to ensure there are no air pockets or wrinkles in the paper. Continue smoothing the wallpaper, working your way from top to bottom.
- 8). Repeat steps 2 through 7 until you have covered your entire wall with the paper.
