How to Decrease Water Retention
- 1). Consult your doctor. Only your doctor can determine if your swelling is a symptom of a serious problem.
- 2). Lower salt intake. Things to avoid are processed foods, lunch meats, potato chips. Check the sodium content on all foods to avoid retaining water.
- 3). Cut back on sugar and caffeine as well, as these may contribute to your swelling and bloating.
- 4). There are many foods that are natural diuretics. Eat lots of apples, grapes, strawberries, dandelion greens, parsley, beets, asparagus. Most foods that grow in the spring help with swelling.
- 5). Try using support stockings to reduce swelling.
- 6). Use presctiption diuretcis with caution.
- 7). Don't forget to exericse! This will improve your circulation.
- 8). Drink four 8 ounce glasses of water a day. Any more or less will upset your internal balance. Drink one glass upon awakening, and one with each meal. Do not sip water all day long, this will do you no good.
- 9). Try to avoid stress and elevate your feet frequently.
