Face it, people are more stressed out than ever.
Children and adults alike are on medications with undesirable effects that are supposed to calm and relieve these symptoms.
The truth is, you can learn how to relax and feel in control in just about any situation using the power of your mind and your imagination.
How? It's called Self Hypnosis.
It's easy, it's quick and best of all, it's free! So, how does hypnosis differ from other practices of relaxation such as meditation or mindfulness? In meditation, you may try to sweep your mind of only a single word or thought, and in mindfulness the idea is to be aware of only the present moment.
Hypnosis is a state of relaxed, yet focused concentration and heightened suggestibility.
While it's best to have a session with a trained hypnotist, you can quickly learn this self hypnosis technique to use for stress, anxiety or any time you wish to feel more focused and in control.
You can take as little or as much time as you want, but remember, it's like working a muscle - the more you practice, the stronger and more effective it will be in your everyday life.
Start by finding a reasonably quiet place to sit.
Take a few nice, deep, natural breaths, then close your eyes and begin to count down from 25 to 1, or even from 10 to 1 while allowing all of your muscle groups to relax.
You would then repeat a suggestion to yourself.
If you want to feel calm, you may say to yourself, "I am calm, I am peace, I am in control.
" At the same time, see yourself in a peaceful place or see yourself as very relaxed.
Make sure that you state the desire in the present tense.
Then, and this is important, really feel the emotion that goes with it.
Remember a time when you were calm -maybe on a quiet beach, or sitting on a porch reading a book.
Maybe revisit a situation in which you felt confident and in control.
Or just make up a peaceful scene in your mind.
The key is to really let yourself be in the fantasy.
See, feel, even taste or hear things in your mind.
Stretch your imagination.
Your body reacts to your thoughts - so by first creating a desired outcome, and then imagining it, you can become more calm, more peaceful and more in control.
