However as much as we hate it, there are cases when dog's stomach gets in trouble due to incidentally taking foods that are not suitable for them.
When these situations arise it is natural for pet owners to panic but knowing exactly what to do on these undesirable circumstances could help give your well-loved dogs their much needed first aid.
1.
In case of vomiting, refrain from feeding your dogs with any food for at least 4 hours, feeding your dog immediately after the vomit would only aggravate his condition.
Give your pet small quantity of water to avoid dehydration; if your dog refuse to drink put an ice cube on his bowl or fill a dropper with water and squeeze it in his mouth.
However excessive water should also be avoided as it could possibly trigger more vomiting.
In case of serious vomiting, give your pet some oral solutions such as Pedialyte to replenish his lost body fluids.
2.
During his fasting, your dog's sugar level could drop so it is important to also monitor your pet's blood sugar.
Prevent hypoglycemia or low sugar level by dropping honey, maple or sugar on your dogs' mouth once in a while.
3.
Seep a bag of peppermint or chamomile tea in boiling water and allow it to cool, give your dog an ounce full every one hour until his vomiting stops.
The soothing properties of chamomile and peppermint could help calm your dog's stomach.
4.
In case of severe vomiting, your vet could give you some medicines such as Pepto-Bismol to soothe your pet's stomach.
Make sure to follow the right dosage as advised by your veterinarian or as indicated in the drug's label.
Use a dropper to administer it properly as your pet may refuse to drink from a spoon.
5.
It is important to know the reason of dog's vomiting; check what he's throwing up, sometimes you could determine the cause of his illness by checking his vomit.
Blood presence in the vomit indicates serious illness such as severe infection or presence of parasitic worms, so it's better to instantly call your vet for immediate professional help.
Our dog is a precious possession of ours so it is still very important to get a professional help in case of serious vomiting or severe condition, remember that your veterinarian knows more than you do and putting your dog on their expert hands could help save the life of your precious friend.
