    • 1). Write down what it is you want to change about yourself. Detail your reason for wanting to make this change. Decide if the change you desire is one that you want or something that you believe would please someone else. If you only wish to make the change for someone else, it isn't likely that the change will stick or that it is a positive change for you.

    • 2). Create a realistic plan for achieving your goal. Write out each step of your plan from start to finish and place it in a visible location in your home or office. Many people who set out to achieve a goal, whether it's losing weight or getting a better-paying job, set an unrealistic timeline for making the change. This can sabotage your efforts.

    • 3). Reinforce positive thinking. If you slip on your diet or take a wrong turn in your efforts to achieve your goal, don't beat yourself up for it. Everyone fails sometimes, but the key to changing something you don't like about yourself is getting back on track toward meeting your goals.
