American Socialism

In one of the very vocal town meetings recently being held around the country about the pending health-care plan, I saw a man on the television news stand up and shout that he hadn't fought in World War II to allow this country to become a socialist state...
he fought and nearly died for democracy.
Wait a minute, sir.
I have a couple of questions for you.
Do you receive Social Security payments every month? Probably so.
Since you fought in WW II, do you qualify for, or receive veteran's benefit? Again, probably so.
Well, if the answer is yes to one or both of those, welcome to America, the socialist democracy.
Socialism, as defined by the dictionary is, "a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc.
, in the community as a whole.
" Those last few words, in the community as a whole, constitutes a key concept.
Federal and state governments are riddled with social programs that allegedly benefit everyone as a whole-Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, unemployment benefits, VA benefits, and hundreds of others.
Then there are those that benefit a much smaller community directly, but are meant to benefit the community as a whole, such as farm subsidies.
And in this country corporations receive direct and indirect payments from governments that benefits an industry, or one particular company that is supposed to benefit the community as a whole.
Frequently, companies receive tax breaks, offers of free land and utilities, and money to help with the construction of facilities in the hopes of being attracted to a community to supply jobs.
Even the latest give-away program, CARS (a.
k.
a.
Cash for Clunkers), is a social program.
Anytime a government-Federal, state, local-makes a payout that benefits someone in some way, that is a social program which is socialism.
This has probably been going on since this country was founded.
Remember, all of the men who worked on the formation and signing of our Constitution establishing a democratic government were wealthy landowners and businessmen.
If you study Constitutional law you will find that our founding document was written in such a way to benefit these men, and the wealthy ever since.
While I don't know the history of social programs in this country, I am sure they existed from the very beginning.
And the minute a government gave someone some money for whatever reason, we automatically changed from a pure democracy to a social democracy.
Don't get me wrong...
I'm not complaining about the system and the way it works.
It's just that I want people to completely understand what they have fought for, what they believe in, and what they are defending.
I love it here, and would never entertain the thought of going elsewhere, but I do understand what America really is.
There isn't a pure democracy on the face of this planet so long as any government pays out any money to individuals, in one form or another.
Try to change Social Security and be prepared for a major fight.
As a matter of fact it is called the third-rail of politics...
don't touch it or you "die.
" People need to see the Truth about our country.
Our country is the best in the World, otherwise why do some many people see it as nirvana and want to come here.
But we put on blinders and refuse to see it for what it is.
The United States of America is a social democracy...
has been for a very long time...
and will continue to be so.
The curious part is so many people are afraid of becoming what they already are.
