You Do Have A Choice About How You Will Age

Humans were meant to move and are capable of extremely heavy workloads right up until a very old age.
This is being proven by people of over 100 years old running marathons and cases of other incredible displays of strength being recorded.
So becoming older does not necessarily mean becoming weaker.
Our modern day lifestyles have an almost complete lack of any meaningful activity but our bodies need this movement to stay healthy and strong and will last much longer with plenty of vigorous exercise.
As we get older 'exercise deficiency syndrome' is the biggest risk we face.
The body does not actually know how old it is but it does know if we are not moving enough.
When you exercise vigorously, your muscles release specific hormones that travel throughout your bloodstream, telling every cell in the body to grow and stay strong.
If activity levels slow inactive muscles produce chemicals that instruct cells to decay.
When this continues for years or even decades the human body will deteriorate and waste away into a frail, weak shell.
Our life cycle is such that if one is not being productive (ie not moving) we are cleared away off the planet to make room for someone else that is productive to take our place.
There is absolutely no point in having lots of unproductive people around that cannot contribute to the good of the majority.
In fact they take away from the good of the majority as they need help to survive.
Just take a look in any nursing home to see the results of deterioration and decay.
Many of these people are still mentally strong and alert but are frail and lack the ability to take care of themselves.
No doubt the loss of 3 - 5 kilos of muscle tissue per decade from lack of activity contributes to this frailty.
As our sole function is the survival of our species, we are made so we can work very hard for several decades while we have to produce food to feed our family.
If activity levels are slowing down the body thinks that there is no longer a family to feed therefore there is no need to keep things functioning if they are not needed.
Without the necessary hormones that vigorous activity creates, muscles grow weak and become smaller.
The rate of muscle mass loss is 500 grams per year starting at age 30 years.
By age 65 if you have not worked at keeping your strength you could have lost as much as 80% of it.
After age 75 years as many as 66% of people cannot lift 5 kilos above their head.
Along with the lost muscle mass the bones that the muscles are attached to also grow soft, weak and brittle.
With so much muscle being lost, balance is affected and serious falls are likely with hip fractures and other injuries being common.
The heart grows weak and scrawny form disuse.
With vigorous activity being abandoned years if not decades ago.
there is no chance it will be needed for anything strenuous anymore.
But hey, all this is normal, after all we are getting old and we have been taught we must grow old "gracefully" or "take it easy" which really all means the same thing "idly".
We see others slowing down as they age and so believe that this is normal to become slow, weak and decrepit.
We start to act old, think old, be old and then deteriorate, decay and fall apart.
But, it doesn't have to be this way.
We now know that is not aging that causes this decay; but the lack of activity in our lives that is the cause.
The good news is no matter what age you are it is never too late to stop and even reverse this process.
You can take immediate steps to protect yourself against the many degenerative diseases that were once thought of as a natural part of aging but are now know as simple disuse.
The simple solution is to begin an exercise program that incorporates at least 60% strength training exercise prescribed by a Fitness Professional.
With proper exercise, you can maintain your strength and vitality throughout your entire life.
You can transform your body from the inside out, restoring health, improving function, and preventing disease.
You are lucky in that so much knowledge is available to make sure you never have to suffer the indignity of your health and mobility being eroded away.
Take it upon yourself to stay strong and fit to protect your future.
