- 1). Start the engine and allow it to warm up for a few minutes to aid the draining process. Shut the mower off and clean the area surrounding the oil fill cap, and the cap to avoid introducing debris into the crankcase.
- 2). Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug, and secure it to the engine block away from the spark plug. Place the drain pan alongside the mower, near the oil fill hole.
- 3). Lay the mower on its side opposite the air filter, with the oil fill hole directly above the drain pan. Clean the area surrounding the engine crankcase plug under the mower deck. Remove the plug with a 3/8-inch ratchet and extension.
- 4). Replace the crankcase drain plug after the oil stops draining. Stand the mower upright, and fill the crankcase with oil. Replace the oil fill cap, and restore the spark plug wire connection.
