Gilroy, CA: Obama's Health Care Reform Efforts Take Another Hit: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California The atmosphere on Capitol Hill continues to be one of fighting and bickering. The latest casualty is President Barack Obama's key official charged with carrying out health care reform, who said he will step down on December 2 after the Republicans succeeded in blocking his confirmation in the Senate. The highly respected Medicare chief Don Berwick is a Harvard professor and nothing unseemly was found in his past to warrant his lack of confirmation. But his desire to make radical changes in our health care system, views congruent with President Obama's, were enough for the Senate to ask Obama to withdraw his nomination. It's just unbelievable that in our society a highly qualified individual can not receive Senate confirmation for a post such as this. Although in the past, political views have been a big subject of public debate for Supreme Court nominees because their decisions are final, it seems unfair both to the individual and the populace that we remain in a state of political gridlock like this for a Medicare post. We need to usher in politicians who can compromise and move the nation forward in next year's elections. The economy remains in turmoil in large part due to high unemployment and poor sentiment on the part of American's because those in Washington D.C. seem unable to sit at a table and move important legislation forward.
