How to Install a Centrifugal Clutch on a Stihl 310
- 1). Undo the bar nuts holding the clutch cover in place. Lift off the clutch cover. Pull the bar and chain away from the Stihl 310. Undo the rubber boot wire from the spark plug. Fit the socket wrench and unscrew the plug. Insert the locking strip into the plug hole.
- 2). Drive a circlip off the crankshaft stub with the tip of a screwdriver. Lift the washer, sprocket and clutch drum off the crankshaft. Fit the clutch removal tool to the center of the clutch. Unscrew the clutch clockwise to remove it.
- 3). Pry off the three clutch springs by pulling back the spring's hook with the screwdriver and slowly lifting the spring out. Pull the clutch shoes off the carrier with your fingers. Pull the retainers out of the center of the clutch.
- 4). Install the clutch in reverse order. Push retainers into the center of the clutch. Push the clutch shoes down into the clutch arms. Hook one end of the three springs onto the clutch. Bend the other side of the springs into place with the screwdriver.
- 5). Fit a washer to the crankshaft stub. Lay the clutch springs and shoes on top so the raised hexagon arrow faces outward. Tighten the clutch counterclockwise with a clutch removal tool.
- 6). Remove the locking strip, fit the plug and refit the plug wire. Grease the needle bearing and crankshaft stub with multipurpose engine grease. Slide the needle bearing onto the crankshaft. Fit the clutch drum to the crankshaft. Set the washer on top and fit the new circlip to hold the clutch in place. Refit the chain, bar and clutch cover.
