    Real or Fake

    • Full head weaves come in synthetic and real options. Real hair gives you a more natural and authentic look but is more expensive. There are a variety of real hair types available such as European, Asian, Indian and Remi. Which to choose depends upon what color, texture and style you want to achieve, as well as cost since some are more expensive than others. Synthetic hair is more affordable and comes in a wide array of colors but if you have sensitive skin, it is more likely to irritate.

Methods of Sewing in the Weave

    • The weave can be sewn in with the single strand method or the weft. The single strand takes 20 to 50 strands of the weave and attaches it to the real hair. A weft consists of larger pieces of hair grouped together at the top with the rest of the hair free flowing. After wefts are attached, they are then cut to blend seamlessly with your natural hair.

    Applications

    • There are three popular types of weave applications. The braided weave braids your natural hair into cornrows on the middle of your scalp, and sews the weave into the braids. No chemicals or heat are applied to hair, and it lasts around two months. Another method is a bonded weave which divides the hair into sections, and applies it to your hair with a bonding solution. Some people can have reaction to solution, so test first. It lasts one or two months. A third method is the fusion weave which divides your hair into small sections and applies weave using hot wax, lasting two or three months.

    Care

    • Weaves can collect bacteria so wash scalp, real hair and weave regularly. Since they tend to dry out, be sure to use gentle cleansers and a deep conditioner. Coloring hair should be done selectively as it can cause further brittleness. Weaves can burn as well, so use caution with heated products such as curling irons and straighteners. Always go to a professional to have the weave removed.
