How to Make Electric Candles
- 1). Begin by heating the double boiler and adding the wax to the top. Bring the wax to the temperature suggested in the directions on the package, generally 185-190 degrees, measuring with the thermometer. (The amount of wax is determined by the chosen mold, so follow the directions, adding a bit more to be safe.)
- 2). The mold must now be heated to prevent bubbling or pitting in the candle surface. Aim the hairdryer inside the mold until the mold is warm to the touch.
- 3). If you are dying your wax, measure the amount defined by the directions accompanying your dye, make sure the wax is still the desired temperature, and add dye directly to wax. Do the same for the candle scent, being sure to follow the directions as well.
- 4). Finally, pour the wax into the mold and wait for it to harden. Once the wax has had ample time to cool, remove the wax from the mold. Be careful to check that the wax is completely hardened, or the candle could become distorted or break.
- 5). Insert the electrical socket into the hole in the bottom of the molded candle, and screw the desired bulb (no stronger than 6-watt) into the socket. You may want to remelt some of the leftover wax and pour a small amount in the bottom of the candle to secure the socket, but this step is not required.
- 6). Enjoy your newly made creation!
