How to Rate String Trimmers

    • 1). Survey the size of your project. Electric trimmers may be suitable for small yards and gasoline trimmers for large properties.

    • 2). Decide how much weight you can carry for a long period of time. Electric trimmers are lightweight but have less power. Gas trimmers are heavier but pack more punch.

    • 3). Look at the kind of brush you will trim. Curved-shaft trimmers are for small, residential maintenance, while straight-shaft trimmers are for more frequent and demanding use.

    • 4). Check the recommended line size. Trimmers use a variety of line gauges and styles for different types of projects.

    • 5). Look at gas trimmers' engine type. Two-cycle engines are standard and require a mixture of gasoline and oil. Four-cycle engines do not require that mixture and tend to run more quietly.
