How to Get a Tax ID for a Web Business in California
- 1). Download the proper Tax ID form, called the SS-4 Form (see Resources).
- 2). Use a pen to fill out the form. Print your lettering so it is legible. Include your California business address, contact information and business information.
- 3). Scan the form on to your computer, if you are sending it via email. Put the form in an envelope and write down the IRS' address (see Resources).
- 4). Check your postal mail or email to obtain your Tax ID. It will usually be issued to you within a short period of time, but no more than 2 to 3 weeks after the application has been filed.
- 1). Call the IRS and speak with a representative. Inform the representative that you would like to obtain a Tax ID through a phone interview.
- 2). Provide the answers to all of the questions during the interview. The questions are the same questions that are on the SS-4 Form.
- 3). Write down your Tax ID when it is provided by the IRS representative after the interview.
