For some reason, the misinformation seems to be circling around here and there that is leading some people to believe salicylic acid will work for skin tag removal.
This is not something you'd want to try, as skin tags are part of the soft part of the skin and an acid such as salicylic would simply cause the tag to become irritated and it would be rather painful.
Furthermore, after causing pain, they would not fall off anyway.
Moles, acne, facial blemishes, and other such dermatologic conditions are commonly treated with salicylic acid.
The typical treatment used by your dermatologist to get rid of tags is going to be cryotherapy, or simply to freeze them.
They won't fall off immediately but will after a few days to a week.
Now, you may wonder if you can just do this at home so that you can avoid a doctor bill.
The answer is that yes, it's possible if you have a pretty small tag.
What you can do is just go to your local CVS or Walgreens drugstore and see if they have some of the home kits that are commonly used for freezing moles.
These might work quite well for a tag unless it is quite large in which case you will probably want to have it professionally removed.
Remember that these kits are not of the same strength as your dermatologist would use so their usefulness will vary.
Skin tag removal is best accomplished by your physician, but in some cases, home remedies can work just as well and they are cheaper too.
