How to Cite an Online News Article in APA Style

    • 1). List the author's last name and first initial. Include all authors.

      Example: Micheli, C.

    • 2). Place the date in parentheses directly following the author's name, with the year listed first and the month and day next.

      Example: Micheli, C. (2010, April 20).

    • 3). Write the name of the article after the date. Capitalize only the first word, the first word after a colon and proper nouns.

      Example: Micheli, C. (2010, April 20). How to cite an online news article in APA style.

    • 4). List the name of the publication in italics, followed by page numbers (where available) not in italics.

      Example: Micheli, C. (2010, April 20). How to cite an online news article in APA style. (italicized) Fictional Newspaper, (not italicized) pp. A3-A6.

    • 5). Include the entire URL from which you retrieved the information, stating "Retrieved from [website] on [date]."

      Example: Micheli, C. (2010, April 20). How to cite an online news article in APA style. (italicized) Fictional Newspaper, (not italicized) pp. A3-A6. Retrieved from http://fictionalnewspaperwebsite.com on April 21, 2010.
