If you are interested in building muscle, fitness experts have some interesting new thoughts on the steps you have to take. No longer is it necessary or wise to spend long hours in the gym.

Russian power lifters have provided some interesting information and background to a different approach. By emulating them, you can surpass any strength gains you have made in the past and seriously decrease the time most weight lifters think you have to dedicate to achieve these results.

The premise of this technique is that you gain 80% of your results from about 20% of the lifts you do in the gym. So, instead of spending the time on an entire long workout, focus on the 20% that really gets the job done.

Additionally, you will be allowing yourself to recover much easier because the technique specifies that you do NOT work muscles to failure, as is most common in other workouts. You get very close, but you do not go to complete exhaustion of the muscle.

Interestingly, there are only three different lifts that you have to master. These are the Squat, the Bench Press and the Dead Lift. All are very common lifts that most people are familiar with.

The recommended workout suggests, maximally, five days a week. All the exercises are done as 5 sets of 5 repetitions. Monday, you would do squats. Tuesday, you would do bench presses, again in sets of 5x5. Wednesday, you would do your dead lifts; and, Thursday – Friday, you would repeat Tuesday and Wednesday, only using lighter weights.

The amount of weight should be what you can lift to get through the five sets, and still have enough in reserve to lift a little more. You should rest about 5 minutes between your sets. So the workout, including a little warm up and stretching afterward, should take about an hour. You leave the gym relaxed with plenty of energy for the next day. Try it!
