Dogs are by default curious explorers.
They "stick their noses" into everyone's business, even if it may present a clear and present danger, or annoyance, to the other party.
Skunks are the worst kind of neighbors to annoy because they make sure your dog knows that it is annoyed.
Skunk's urine based defense, which is actually a sulfur based chemical compound, is known for its extremely potent and foul smell.
Without proper knowledge, it maybe take you days or even weeks to get the smell out.
Here are some things you may try 1.
Wear clothes that you don't mind not wearing for next few weeks or even throw away.
Let's face it.
Your clothes will come in contact with your dog's fur and you don't want your coworkers sharing this experience.
2.
Before completely washing the dog, try and soak up as much of the skunk pee as possible.
Use the "tap and press" method, not wipe and spread method, as this will enlarge the "damage" area.
3.
Use tomato juice, instead of water.
Yes, this trick works not only on humans, but also on dogs as well.
Remember that you will probably need to bathe your dog, whether in water or tomato juice, multiple times so be patient.
Remember, red dogs are better than stinky dogs.
4.
Use this popular skunk smell eliminating recipe: 1 qt of Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap or dishwashing detergent.
If your dog is larger, make more with proper ratio.
Remember to keep this mixture out of dog's sensitive areas like eyes, nose, and ears.
Warning: mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda will react with high energy so make sure to do this in open environment with proper precaution and protective gears, and away from your children or dogs 5.
Rinse.
If the dog still smells, repeat as necessary.
Yes, getting skunked is a horrible experience.
But look on the bright side: your dog is alive and still healthy.
