Cane Corsos can make a great combination of family pet and protector with proper training and socialization.
Corsos are large dogs, sometimes stubborn, with a deep protection instinct and naturally leery of strangers which makes good training and extensive socialization much more important.
They key to having a well behaved adult Cane Corso is to begin training and socialization at an early age.
When many dog owners think of the word training, they assume it refers to sit, stay, come, and a few fancy tricks, but they have left out an important and essential step.
Many owners fail to realize their new puppy is a pack animal and the important role pack structure plays in the puppy's life.
When a Cane Corso puppy is brought into the home your family becomes its new pack.
Cane Corso Puppies must understand their place in the new pack and owners must establish themselves as fair and consistent Alpha leaders.
The puppy should be outranked by all humans in the house.
It is important every member of your family has the same fair and consistent expectations for the new pack member.

  • Never allow a puppy to sleep in your bed, I allow them to sleep in a doggy bed on the floor.
  • Do not feed from the table.
    Alpha eats first.
  • A puppy should never pull you down the street when out for a walk.
  • Do not allow the puppy to bully you into petting it.
  • Furniture is not the place for your new pup.
    Its Alpha's couch.
  • Any and all unwarranted aggression needs to be corrected.
  • Make the puppy sit before leaving the home.
You may not understand the above steps but your new puppy will get the message.
These steps can be used for a new puppy, recently adopted adult, or current pet with behavior issues.
