The Fatal Error
There are mistakes in life; we all have committed them at one time or another.
But, there is one mistake, or as I would call it, fatal error, that continues to be dominate in many people's lives.
This fatal error continues to rob people of what they want, or what they desire.
And, while this fatal error is easy to correct, thousands of people choose to exist within its power day after day.
This fatal error can be summarized as the 'if and when' syndrome.
Sound simplistic? It is.
But, this simple phrase takes on a life of it's own and offers no benefits.
Here's how this error shows up; you may have seen this in yourself, your friends, or your colleagues.
Thousands of people from all walks of life wish they could have a better job, or a job that gives them more satisfaction, better wages, or where they had more control over when and how they perform their duties.
We can hear this lament at the water cooler when colleagues gather for a few minutes, we over hear these comments at local restaurants as people gather to meet their friends, or you can hear these kinds of complaints on every bus, commuter train or if you car pool.
The conversations usually follow along with comments like' 'if only I could get a better job, I'd be able to afford to buy a better house, or car, or pay off some debt'.
Or, 'when I enrol and complete my courses, I'll be able to apply for a new career, one where I can have other people do some of the mundane work that I hate'.
Sound familiar? Do you know anyone like this? To some of these people, the "if and when" error rolls off their tongue constantly but even follow up conversations with them years later, is filled with more of the same.
There are dreams only imagined, there are opportunities lost, and there are lives destroyed.
So, what's the answer, what's the easiest thing to do to put this error behind you once and for all? The short answer is this: take action and put yourself in the driver's seat of life and seize control of the wheel.
No one else is going to do it for you; no volume of complaining or bemoaning your circumstances will change anything for the better.
And, rid yourself of all the excuses.
These excuses show up in self-talk every day and go like this: if I had more time, I would take a course to help me get a better job; if I wasn't so tired, I'd be able to develop my hobby into a side line business; or, if I had a better education, I wouldn't have to work for such a lousy company doing dissatisfying work.
Excuses don't get it done; excuses only mean that you really don't want to change your life or circumstances bad enough.
Excuses mean you'd rather be mired forever in complaining about life and not doing one little bit to change it.
You have the power to change, and you have the choice.
Will you continue to let "if and when' rule you forever or will you start to take action? The choice is always yours.
