How to Grow Avocado Lila
- 1). Dig a 9-inch-deep hole six inches away from the trunk to determine if the Lila avocado tree needs water. If the soil at the bottom of the hole is dry, water the tree. Use a soaker hose set around the Lila avocado at the drip line. Keep checking the hole periodically to determine how long to run the soaker hose when you water.
- 2). Fertilize the Lila avocado in its first year every two months with 1/4 lb. of 8-3-9 fertilizer. When the tree reaches 2 years old and thereafter, use the rate recommended on the bag for the age and size of the tree. Use the same 8-3-9 fertilizer and apply it four times during the season, from spring to early autumn.
- 3). Supply Lila with supplemental nutrition by spraying it with zinc, boron and manganese three to four times from spring through summer. When the tree reaches 5 years of age, use only manganese and zinc.
