Hire a licensed asbestos inspector to view the suspicious materials. Chances are, if there has been little or no renovation to the heating system of an older home, there are asbestos-containing materials present. An experienced inspector should be able to determine whether there are asbestos-containing materials present based on an initial visual observation. Once the inspector advises you that there is asbestos-containing material in your property, discuss how you should treat it.
