Top 5 Best Supporting Actors: 2006
Another category with a plethora of choices, my Best Supporting Actors of 2006 list is topped by a good-looking young actor better known for playing the hunky boyfriend than as a top-notch dramatic actor. The biggest hurdle to overcome as I narrowed down this list was whether Jack Nicholson deserved the nod for The Departed or Mark Wahlberg. It was a tough choice but in the end, Nicholson edged out the former singer-turned-serious actor.Honorable Mentions: James McAvoy, Jackie Earle Haley, Ben Affleck
Channing Tatum's the guy that made teen hearts race in She's the Man and the hot dancer who won over the rest of the female population in Step Up. He's also the same actor who tore up the screen in the gritty independent film A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. Co-star Chazz Palminteri lavished praise on Tatum, calling him smart, extremely talented, and eager to learn. Here's hoping Saints is just the first step toward a solid career.More »
Okay, so everyone recognizes him now as Bond, James Bond. But before he accepted the lead in Casino Royale, Craig was better known for roles in independent films. 3. Kazunari Ninomiya - Letters from Iwo Jima
I'd never heard of Kazunari Ninomiya prior to watching Letters from Iwo Jima but I know I won't soon forget him. This talented Japanese actor displays an incredible range and steals Clint Eastwood's film.More »4. Michael Sheen - The Queen
Michael Sheen says he has a difficult time watching himself as Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Queen because he thinks he looks like a kid in the film. Sheen's being too hard on himself. His resemblance to Blair is startling, but his physical appearance isn't what makes Sheen so terrific in the film.
