How to Fix a Whirlpool Electric Dryer that Won't Dry

    • 1). Confirm the dryer is still properly plugged in. Vibration from wash cycles can cause the power cable to work loose from the outlet. Give the power cable a push to make sure it is tightly connected.

    • 2). Verify the dryer is hooked up to a suitable power supply. Whirlpool dryers need a high-voltage, four-pronged outlet to work properly. Contact an electrician if you think your dryer may be hooked up to the wrong power supply.

    • 3). Examine your household fuses. Whirlpool dryers need two working time-delay fuses to work properly. If one of the two fuses has blown the dryer may work intermittently, not spinning or heating up. Make sure no breakers have been tripped if your home doesn't use fuses.

    • 4). Push the dryer door to make sure it is firmly shut. If the dryer door is left slightly open the dryer will not start. Press the "Start/Pause" button to begin the cycle once the door is closed.

    • 5). Press and hold the "Start/Pause" button down for up to five seconds. Some large drying loads require the start button to be held before the dryer will start.

    • 6). Contact Whirlpool if your drying problems continue after completing these steps. You may qualify for free service if your dryer is within its warranty period. See Resources for a link to Whirlpool's contact details.
