    Using Windows Messenger Options

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Windows Messenger" to launch the messaging application.

    • 2). Click the "Tools" menu on the top. Scroll down the pop-up menu and click "Options" to launch Windows Messenger options. Click the "Preferences" tab.

    • 3). Click and uncheck the "Automatically log on to Windows Messenger" check-box. Click "OK" to save the changes. Exit Windows Messenger.

    Using the Services Module

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu and click "Run". Launch the Services module by typing "services.msc" (without quotes) and pressing "Enter".

    • 2). Scroll down the Services module and double-click "Windows Messenger". A dialog box launches.

    • 3). Select "Disabled" in the "Startup type" box and click "OK" to save the changes. Close the Services module and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
