    • 1). Select a bank where you want to open an account. Commonly found banks include NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds TSB and Halifax.

    • 2). Gather all the identity documents you will need to open the account. You need your passport, proof of your U.K. address on something like a utility bill, proof of your home country address if you are only in the U.K. for a short time, your student status if you are eligible for a student account, a reference letter from your bank in your home country, proof of income and income source.

    • 3). Take your identity documents to the bank branch you have chosen and complete the paperwork for a new account.

    • 4). Speak with an account manager. You will be asked about your business in the U.K. and must answer any questions the account manager may have about your paperwork.

    • 5). Provide a sample signature for the file of your account. Sign the credit history form so the account manager can check your credit history before setting up your new account. Be sure to double-check the address where your debit card will be sent to make sure it is not sent to your address outside the U.K.
