There are some very effective ways to use a fake security camera to deter criminal activity from occurring on your property. The important thing is making sure that the security camera appears real so people will behave the way they are suppose to when they think they are being watched. There are times when security cameras are meant to be discrete and there are other times when the camera is prominently installed in a position that everyone knows they are being watched.

Using a fake security camera means you want people to think and act like they are under surveillance. This also means that the camera must be installed in such a way that it does not get attacked like a real camera would. There are cheap plastic looking cameras that are obviously not real and it is a good idea to avoid such products. Go for slightly more expensive and realistic cameras that come with built in motion sensors and LED lights to signal recordings in progress.

The motion sensors can go as far as follow the moving object so it looks like there is a person controlling the fake security camera from a monitoring room. Others simply use the motion sensor to turn on the LED light to make it appear as though the camera is active. Whatever the case, if you have more than one camera in your security system and are mixing real cameras with dummy cameras, it is important to make them match as closely as possible.

This means that if your real cameras are enclosed in protective housing that your fake cameras are also enclosed. If there are particularly colored wires expose from your real cameras you better make sure to expose the similar type of wiring with your fake cameras. Also keep the fake cameras clean since it might make a nice nest for some birds but would give away the fact that it is non-operable.
